The client
BESSEY Tool GmbH & Co. KG is a medium sized company that was founded in Southern Germany in 1889. During the course of its 115 years company history, a globally active company has been developed from the bright steel producer, which originally only operated from the East of Stuttgart. Today, the Bessey group is divided into two company divisions, each of which has been certified in accordance with the very latest requirements: BESSEY Tool GmbH & Co. KG – where the company is the global market leader – includes tension and cutting technology and BESSEY Präzisionsstahl GmbH, which, apart from non-alloy bright steel also produces stainless steel. In both divisions the brand Bessey distinguishes itself through high quality and the power of innovation.
The task
BESSEY Tool GmbH & Co. KG uses the Single Source Publishing System asim® for managing their product data. The media neutral administered data of ca. 5,000 articles from four company sectors is no longer only be used for generating print catalogues, but also for presenting them on the Internet in form of an online catalogue. Given this task, communicode was asked to develop and design a completely new design for the company's marketing website in accordance with the requirements of their international clientele.
It is the aim of the online catalogue to provide the company’s clients with a logical and clear application for researching and navigating purposes within the BESSEY product range. Apart from that, dealers should have the possibility to compose clear and current shopping lists and to address the responsible employee in each case with any questions that could arise.
The implementation
All data for the online catalogue is stored and administered centrally and in a media neutral manner within the product information management system asim®. A one-off data collection and its media suitable processing, which at the time of publication will be carried out from one source, results in significant cost savings for the company. Presenting the product range on the Internet, is done via templates resp. configuration files, taking the requirement for far reaching flexibility into account. Product enquiries over the Internet and automated processing via the web catalogue or via market places substantially increase customer loyalty – from the viewpoint of BESSEY Tool GmbH & Co. KG, a genuine advantage over its competitors.
The details
The structure and the layout of the company website was completely revised and designed by communicode. The technological basis is formed by a data base supported J2EE system with Product Information Management System (PIM) as its core piece. The representation is carried out in XHTML 1.1 and CSS 2.0 and permits the further processing of contents to other media such as PDA, mobile, printer and other barrier-free information presentation. Thanks to a MVC2 framework, the separation between applications logic (Java) and presentation level (XHTML) is possible without problems.
All contents of the Internet entrance of BESSEY Tool GmbH & Co. KG are maintained through a web browser in a Content Management System (CMS) in an uncomplicated and user friendly manner. Any changes to individual pages by the inserted staging server can be accepted by the responsible employee before going live.
Due to the fact that generating the part template for the dynamical area of the online presence is also carried out from the CMS, communicode is in a position to guarantee a consistent representation of the entire website.
