The client

In 1983, Escha Bauelemente GmbH began producing waterproof round docking connectors for connecting sensors and actors exclusively for Werner Turck GmbH. Only a short time later, the company extended its product range and managed to get into the fast growing automation market. Today, Escha Bauelemente GmbH occupies a leading position in the area of connection technology for automation components with a wide ranging standard programme. Because in the opinion of the management, standard alone is not enough to fulfil specific requirements, Escha provides its clients in addition with an extensive range of individual services linked around connection and casing technology.

The task

For managing their extensive technical range of products and for generating relevant print documents, Escha Bauelemente GmbH is using the Single Source Publishing System asim^®. What the company asked communicode to do was to make the product range by Escha available to their international client base, on the Internet as well as on CD-ROM.

The implementation

In order to be able to realise print processes efficiently, all product information has already been structured in advance and organised in asim^®. Via a Standard-XML interface, these product data will be directly imported to the online catalogue of the Product Information Management System (PIM).
This enables the company’s clients to call up PDF documents, technical drawings and other important additional information for each product group or product.
Furthermore, they are able to initiate and process enquiries about their products.
An optional personalisation module makes a number of user-specific functionalities available, such as storing bookmarks and memory lists.
A subordinate generating process guarantees the availability of the entire online catalogue on CD-ROM, which can be started in a user friendly manner without installation and is both optically as well as functionally identical to the online catalogue. It operates easily within the Internet browser.

The details

The structure and the layout of the company website were adapted by communicode and integrated in the web catalogue, which runs on a Windows 2003 server under Apache Tomcat. A data based supported J2EE system with the Product Information Management System (PIM) as technological basis acts as the core. A MVC2 framework enables the uncomplicated separation of application logic (Java) and the presentation level (HTML).
